The average precipitation for a year is between 20 to 50 inches of precipitation. It is normally in the form of snow.
Storms in the taiga are more like wind storms, blowing down trees. Sometimes the storms can have benefits, lightning bolts strike the tree causing it to become a forest fire. The fire will burn down trees making room for new trees to grow.
Because of harsh weather in the taiga, some parts are permanently frozen on the top layer of soil. Water from precipitation and melting snow in warmer seasons cannot seep through the permafrost , so the taiga ground remains soft and damp in some parts. Other parts that do not have permafrost lave a layer of hard rock that remains close to the surface.
